Boy did I love doing this project! This moodboard is about old and found objects.
The newspaper clipping are from my Great Aunt Elise. She had clipped and put them into one of her books. The clippings are from the early 1900’s and they’re called “Parlor Games”. It’s so fun to read about these games and to think they had just themselves and books for entertainment as these clippings where pre radio! In the lower left corner you see an illustration of a bird and some handwriting. My Great Aunt Elise was a teacher and taught school during the depression. They couldn’t afford a ton of books so she would make and illustrate her own! The jewelry is from an estate sale. I bought the necklace and earrings for $2. Gotta love that! The flowers are from my garden. And lastly, the book in the upper right corner is over a 100 years old. It’s “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” by Harriet Beecher Stowe. There are so many things I find fascinating about this book. One, it’s written by a woman well before we had rights. Two, the actual material is so profound on so many levels. Three, for such a “heavy/intense” book I find it interesting the publisher decided to pick flowers to put on the cover. Do the roses with thorns convey the content inside or where they added to make the book look pretty? Hmm, what do you think?
