With my son Jacob (4.5yrs) in preschool 5 days a week it’s just us girls now. We both miss Jacob terribly but it will be fun to spend a little time with just Katelyn (2.5yrs). These coin purses bring back so many memories of when I was a little girl and shopping with my mom and grandma. I would bring it where ever we went and it was filled with all sorts of treasures. Hmmm, this would make a great little gift for Katelyn for the holidays… but which color to choose? Which color do you like? Do you have memories as a child with a similar coin purse?

Phew, the pillow and tutorial are finished! I have to admit to you all this was quite an undertaking for me. I’m a novice sewer and so there was a little bit of trial and error along the way. I tried to make the below tutorial clear and easy to follow but please do not hesitate to email or comment with questions and I will respond as best I can.

Here are a couple of things I’d like to highlight from the tutorial:

How to make the ruffle:

There are two ways to make a ruffle. The first is with a special foot you can purchase for your sewing machine. I have a Brother sewing machine so my foot is specific to that sewing machine. Feel free to email or comment below if you have further questions regarding this. The second way is by sewing two strips and pulling the fabric along the strings of thread (I used this technique to enclose the fabric around the pillow). Cherly of A Pretty Cool Life has a very easy tutorial to follow on this technique. Click here to check that out.

Fabric Glue:

The second thing I would like to mention is the fabric glue I used. It’s called Fabi-Tac and I LUV it!! It’s like having a glue gun in a bottle. When I applied mine I to the fabric pieces I glued I used books to hold the fabic down and in place. I also waited a whole 24 hours to allowing for drying. I got my glue at Joann Fabrics. Here’s a link to get more info on it.

Fusible Fleece

I have to admit I know very little about this stuff but what I do know is that it helps strength the fabric when you are creating appliques. I had some left over from a project I was working on and so I used what I had. The fusible fleece I used was called InnerFuse and I found it at Joann Fabric. I love how it adhears to your fabric and then you can run it through your sewing machine without the fabric slipping. For both the circle and the butterfly I used the zig-zag stitch. I ran the butterfly through a couple of times so that I got full coverage with the hot pink thread.

Okay girls, well I hope you all have fun with this project and again feel free to email or comment with questions etc! Happy Sewing

Yahoo! I finally got to bust out my sewing machine. It’s been way too long sense I’ve used it for a project. And oh do I have a project for you! It’s super easy (it will take you less than 3 hours including cutting the pattern!), totally practical and environmentally friendly! The best part of this project is you don’t need to iron. I’m all for a sewing project that doesn’t require ironing

The Sandwich Wrap
So let’s chat about this project. It’s a sandwich wrap and place-mat all in one. There is fabric on the outside and on the inside is plastic. You wrap your sandwich up and then when you are done with it you can wipe the plastic down. It’s perfect for adults and kids alike. I’ve selected a more adult type fabric but you could always select something more kid friendly (I’m working on a couple more and will show you those tomorrow).

Ready to get started? First download the pattern.

Please let me know if there’s anything you feel needs to be changed or improved on with the directions or the pattern. I’m so not a sewer so any tips/tricks are welcome
