{ DIY – a magnetic chalkboard calendar}

Good morning all! I hope everyone had a great weekend. I can not believe it’s March. Where have the last two months gone? It’s been such a blur!
I thought it would be fun to kick off this month with a super fun and very easy project, a magnetic chalkboard calendar. I love the versatility of this calendar board, you select the frame and chalkboard color to suit your décor needs. I found this frame at Michael’s on clearance and chose black as a nice neutral background.
Materials Needed

Frame
Board to fit in the frame (I used the board that came with my frame)
Chalk Board Tint Base (product info: http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=168)
Magnetic Latex Primer (product info: http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=127)
Ruler
Chalk or Chalk Ink (I found my chalk ink at Target)
Numbers for days of the month (click here to download the numbers I used for my board)
Hole Punch that is about the same size as the glass rocks
Magnets (Michael’s)
Glass Rocks (Michael’s)
Spray Mount Adhesive
Hot Glue Gun
(please note: not all the supplies have been included in this picture)
- - Follow the directions for both the Magnetic Latex Primer and Chalk Board Tint.
- - Once your board has dried take your ruler and draw a line across the board at the top to give yourself enough space to write out the month.
- - Next, divide the bottom area of the board into 4 horizontal sections.
- - Then divide the area into 7 rows vertically.
- - Now you are ready for the numbers. You can use the numbers I supplied or you can create some new numbers to suite the design style of your board. Just make sure the numbers fit into the glass area of your rock.
- - Once the numbers are printed out, use the hole punch to pop out the numbers and then spray mount them onto your glass rocks.
- - When the numbers have dried onto the glass rocks you can glue the magnets to your glass numbers with your hot glue gun. Repeat until all the numbers are complete.
Now we get into the fun stuff! Embellishing the Magnet/Chalk Board. I’m not thrilled with the look of how my calendar area turned out. It makes you realize how talented those chalk artists are that create the menu systems at places like Starbucks!

I also created a week at-a-glance calendar. It’s nice to have room to breakout each day with a little more detail as well as have an area dedicated for those to-do’s!
I’d love to see how you have created your monthly calendar. The type of frame and chalkboard paint picked.
As for next month, I’m looking forward to getting a little more creative when updating my calendar board. Maybe bust out the stencils… how about you? How did you embellish your board? I’d love have the opportunity to post your final calendar boards up on the blog. Email me at tobecharmed at yahoo dot com.
Happy Creating!
